Three of the gunmen charged in Punjab yesterday with killing a follower of Dera Sachcha Sauda have been arrested, police said. Six gunmen involved in the murder were identified, they said earlier today and released their photos.
The arrests were made in Punjab a day after Pardeep Singh, an accused in a 2015 sacrilege case, was shot dead in Faridkot. The six gunmen identified were four from Haryana and two from Punjab.
One of the gunmen has been identified as Jeeta, according to sources.
The gunmen seen in the footage have been linked to California-based mobster Goldy Brar, who has claimed responsibility for Singh’s murder, sources said.
Punjab Police and Special Cell are conducting raids in connection with the murder.
Pardeep Singh was shot dead by the gunmen and their aides as he opened his dairy this morning, police said. The incident was captured on security cameras.
Singh was charged in a 2015 case of stealing a copy of the Guru Granth Sahib. He was out on bail in Faridkot when he was murdered.
The sacrilegious incidents sparked protests in Faridkot and two people were killed after police fired on protesters.
