New Delhi:
A 25-year-old man was reportedly stabbed to death by some unidentified people after an altercation in the Nangloi area of West Delhi, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday night on Kavita Colony road, nearly 150 meters from Nangloi police station.
Three people have been arrested, police said.
A case under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Nangloi Police Station and an investigation was launched, the police said.
The victim has been identified as Sahil Malik, a resident of Kavita Colony in Nangloi, they said.
Sahil’s elder brother, identified as Vishal Malik, was returning from the gym when he got into an argument with an RTV driver after his bike allegedly hit the latter’s minibus.
The altercation further escalated at the bus parking lot near Nangloi subway station, where Vishal’s bicycle was damaged by RTV staff. However, Vishal managed to escape and reached the nearest police station after narrating the incident to his relatives by phone, the latter claimed.
Relatives said that during that time, Sahil also called his brother and heard the incident and reached the police station.
Sahil went back to where the bike was in damaged condition and was shooting video when unidentified persons attacked and stabbed him, they said.
Police said the older brother of the dead was riding a bicycle and had an argument with RTV staff after both vehicles hit each other.
It further escalated at the bus parking lot near Nangloi metro station where Vishal Malik’s bicycle was damaged by the RTV staff. Around 1930 hrs, the victim (Sahil) along with his two friends went to grab the bicycle which was in damaged condition where he was attacked and stabbed, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outside) Harendra Kumar Singh.
Raids have been carried out in various parts of the city and three suspects, including the driver of the bus, have been arrested. They have been identified as Sunny Kashyap, 23, Sumit alias Pankaj, 21, both residents of Ranhola village, and bus driver Ram Prakash, 36, a resident of Nangloi Extension, police said.
The suspect will be taken to court, police said.
“Sahil was taken to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital where he died during treatment,” a police officer said.
Meanwhile, camera images of the incident are circulating on social media.
The footage shows the victim in an injured condition as his friend tries to hold him down. The video also shows how the victim eventually falls to the ground.
Isaab Khan, a relative of the victim, claimed that had a police officer accompanied Sahil, he would not have been attacked by the suspect.
“I was here in the night. Sahil had a very painful death and the police are responsible for this. Vishal had gone to the police station to save himself from the attack and told about the incident. If a police officer had accompanied Sahil, he would have was not attacked by the suspects. He was returning from his workplace when he was attacked. The incident took place about 100 meters from the spot.” claimed Mr Khan who is a retired army man.
According to the police, it will be investigated by the district’s additional deputy police commissioner.
