Thirteen people were killed in a fire that night at a cafe in the Russian city of Kostroma, local authorities said on Saturday.
“According to preliminary information, 13 people have been affected by the fire,” local governor Sergei Sitnikov told Telegram.
Russian news agencies reported that 250 people were evacuated from the building when it caught fire overnight in the city, about 300 kilometers (180 miles) northeast of Moscow.
Sitnikov said the fire at the cafe, called “Poligon”, was extinguished around 07:30 AM (0430 GMT).
At least five other people were injured, he said, but they did not require hospitalization.
Local emergency services said they received reports of the fire around 2 a.m. and that the fire had spread over 3,500 square meters.
