National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has said it is fully prepared to meet the country’s burgeoning power demand and has registered production growth of 23 percent from the previous year.
The statement from the state-owned company comes at a time when power demand has surged.
To meet demand, NTPC has said the group stations’ generation capacity has registered a 23 percent growth. As part of a flexible use of its coal policy, the company manages the coal supply for those stations where stocks have reached critical levels.
It regularly works with Coal India and Indian Railways to increase coal supply at critical stations and divert rakes where necessary.
NTPC is also increasing coal production from all of its captive mines and is also asking states to plan for gas station shutdowns. In order to make plans for making agreements about gas for generator companies, states have been urged to schedule the power supply for at least a week.
