Holidays May 2023: Banks will be closed for 12 days in May 2023, including the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays. According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks are closed on all public holidays, with some regional holidays depending on the specific state. Regional holidays are determined by the respective state governments.
The holidays come into effect in three categories, including “Holidays under the Law on Negotiable Instruments”, “Holidays under the Law on Transferable Instruments and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays” and “Banks Closing of Accounts”. One holiday is in effect due to “Bank Closures” on April 1, when a majority of banks across the country remain closed, while the “Holidays Due to Negotiable Instruments” category has the highest number of holidays.
There are four vacation days under Negotiable Act in My, three of which have already been exhausted. The remaining day off is used up on Monday, after that every public holiday is a weekend leave. It should be noted that in most cases, holidays take effect based on the region in which a particular branch is located. This means that most holidays are region specific.
