Currently, the government provides 12 subsidized LPG bottles of 14.2 kilograms to a household every year. The amount of government subsidy on the annual quota of 12 refills varies from month to month.
LPG prices in the country are determined by the prevailing crude oil prices in the international markets and the rupee-dollar exchange rate.
Cooking gas rates vary in different parts of the country due to local taxes. Typically, the prices of the non-subsidized LPG bottles are reviewed on a monthly basis and any changes are made on the first day of each month.
The increase in LPG comes at a time when petrol and diesel tariffs are hitting record highs across the country. Petrol prices have already exceeded the RS 100 in the country.
