Madhya Pradesh government’s 4 percent DA hike will increase salary of state government employees by 1,600-6,000
7th Pay Commission Update: The government of Madhya Pradesh has announced a 4 percent increase in dearness benefit (DA), bringing the DA on par with that for central government employees. With the latest increase, DA in the state has risen to 42 percent.
The decision was announced on Friday by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at a mass wedding gathering in Sehore district.
The 4 percent DA increase by the Madhya Pradesh government will increase the salary of state government employees by 1,600 to 6,000. The government of Madhya Pradesh also reviews the salary of the employees twice a year, in agreement with the central government.
The government of Madhya Pradesh announced on March 15 after a cabinet meeting to raise the DA. Home Secretary Narottam Mishra had said that the allowance was retroactively increased from 1 January 2023 and would put an additional burden of Rs 265 crore on the treasury.
Recently, the government of Odisha also announced a four percent increase for its employees and pensioners. The DA for employees and retirees has been increased from the current 38 percent to 42 percent. The increased DA will take effect retroactively from January 23 this year and the employees will receive the amount with their June salary, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office on Tuesday.
Last month, Karnataka also increased the DA by 4 percent retroactively from January 1, 2023. The DA in Karnataka has been increased from 31 percent to 35 percent.
Before that, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh also announced their salary increases for their government employees and pensioners
DA Hike for central government employees probably
According to media reports, next month, July 2023, the Center will also likely increase the dearness benefit (DA), increasing their salaries. The DA increase is likely to be 3-4 percent, to compensate central government employees and retirees for rising prices.
The DA is hiked twice a year – January and July. The last increase was announced in March 2023 and took effect on January 1, 2023. The increase increased the DA by 4 percent to 42 percent.
According to the reports, the central government could now decide to increase the DA by 4 percent, after which the DA will rise to 46 percent.
Dearness benefit (DA) is given to government employees while Dearness relief (DR) is for retirees. According to the official data, there are 47.58 lakh central government employees and 69.76 lakh pensioners. After the upcoming DA walk, these employees and retirees will benefit.
The DA is given to employees based on the basic salary of the employees while the DR is given based on a basic pension.
